The Paris Review Interviews: vol. 2 // final

introduction by Orhan Pamuk / edited by Philip Gourevitch // The Paris Review / Picador

• A PRINT's Regional Design Annual Selection

• The New York Book Show 2008 Award winner // Paperback Series

Author and The Paris Review editor Philip Gourevitch loved the yellow used on volume one and wanted us to continue the bright palette for this four volume series. I didn't want to go to red just yet and he suggested a "pool chalk" blue. This second volume will print with a fluorescent blue / PMS 801 background.

I'm a big fan of the first, but anything that uses pool chalk blue is ok with me. (I come home with it all over my shirt about 2 times a week).

Oh, maybe you'd be able to clear up something which confused me!
I've seen Volume 2 advertised with both a blue and a red cover - they also seem to have different lists of authors on the front. Which is actually the second volume?! Or is this the difference between UK and US editions?

Hi Stuckinabook,

the only printed, approved design for The Paris Review Interviews: Volume 2 in Picador USA paperbacks is in blue. And as far as I know, the UK edition is using my exact files that I gave them.
There was an idea created in red with hand-lettering, you can see it elsewhere on my blog, but it was rejected and never used.
Where did you see this ad?

I'm designing the next volume now, and the color palette will probably be Magenta, Silver and Black. I'm just waiting for the new list of names to typeset.

thanks for the heads up.
Cheers,
Henry

Hiya,

Thanks for getting back to me - I saw the red cover when just searching for 'Paris Review Interviews' in amazon.co.uk - http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_w_h_?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=paris+review+interviews&Go.x=0&Go.y=0&Go=Go
and they seem to have both there...!
